Miracles & Manta Ray July 14, 2015

Holaaaaaa!

So. This week. Let me just tell you: miracles out the wazoo!

Having the two areas combined is a lot of work but there is so much good coming from it. We are teaching a lot of people. There are 4 kids that will be getting baptized soon. Their families were less active for a while so they weren't baptized when they turned 8 but now they are back and we're teaching them and they are getting ready! I love teaching kids. They are so humble and faithful.

We are starting a lot of new things to try and get the branch more involved in missionary work. I feel so passionate about it and have a billion things I want to do! We got 5 referrals from the members to teach their friends last week which is a huge miracle.

Also we ate manta ray soup. Yep. Totally happened. I thought the members were kidding at first but nope! It was hilarious. It made Hermana Bleak super sick though. But! It was such a great dinner. We had just come from a lesson with a lady that just completely rejected our message. We testified like crazy and did everything we possibly could but when I asked her if she would be willing to find out for herself if it was true she just straight up said no. That's never happened to me in a lesson before. We were a little shaken up after just because it was so sad to see her completely reject and turn away from the best thing that could ever happen to her. But..agency is real! And we have to accept and respect that. We told the Ruiz family at dinner what had happened and then they shared their conversion story with us. It took 10 years and 8 sets of missionaries before they joined the church. They moved twice during those 10 years but the missionaries always showed up at their door. She comforted us by telling us that it truly is all in the Lord's timing. Some people just aren't ready yet.  And we planted the seed and one day she'll be so grateful for that.
Then Hermana Ruiz proposed a plan to us. She said that she is going to go on visits with us for 2 hours 3 times a week to help us get to know the new area and members and that in 1 month we are going to have 20 new families at church. UHM YEAH, OKAY! We are so excited and really have a lot of faith and hope to reach our goal! Hermana Ruiz is such an amazing help. She works, goes to school, has three kids, and is the primary president but she knows how important this work is and know she needs to help. And what a huge blessing to us that is!

Jose went to the temple for the first time to do baptisms for the dead this week! And he said he hopes to go every single week!

Threw a quick little birthday surprise party for Deiri, a recent convert!

Hermana Bleak is such a great companion. I am so blessed! And we have so much fun all the time.

Funny Quotes of the week:
"what?! ... (whispered voice) I wanna be a prophet..." -9 year old Luis
"Like the Americans say...Have fun." -Hno Astudillo (with a super thick accent)
"Don't go looking for a boyfriend. You are working for another man. " -also Hno Astudillo

Sorry this is so scattered! Maybe one day I'll be good at emailing. But no promises.
Thanks to everyone who's written me! It sure means a lot!
Les quiero!
Hermana Dearden
Here's some pics that I forgot to send before: the zone and the district from last transfer. Love these elders!
