Chunky Got Dunked! May 12, 2015

Hey hey hey!

JOSE IS FINALLY BAPTIZED! Highlight of my life? Yeah, probably. I love that man. While he was changing the ward mission leader asked us to share our experience teaching him. That's the first time I ever have spoken in public in spanish and I was trying to not cry at the same time! After the baptism he told me that it was hard to explain himself but he just felt such joy and peace in his heart. The baptismal ordinance is so simple yet celestial and the spirit that it brings is so beautiful.

Also this week we started teaching a new guy named Macario. I felt like I was transported into the ancient ruins of Mexico when I walked into his house. He is a very interesting character. He believes in a greater being but doesn't identify it as any one thing/person. I am so exciting to be teaching him! He is basically like a modern day King Lamoni. (Alma Ch18 --really cool story, look it up!)

The ward had a mother's day activity on friday (that's a thing here...interesting, right?) where the men of the ward went all out and put everything on. One of the members is a singer apparently and he serenaded us with very loud and very old mexican music. It was so great haha!

So! I'm sorry for going MIA last week. I will be honest in that I have been set in front of some trials lately but I know that our Heavenly Father doesn't give us anything that we can't handle. The harder the struggle, the stronger He knows you are. In order to learn and grow and reach our full potential, we have to be tested and tried and stretched in every which way. How grateful I am that we have a Savior who has personally felt every pain and affliction that all of us ever have and ever will feel. I know that this is not just a nice thought or a tale passed down through the ages--but that it is REAL. Jesus Christ has paid the price. He has atoned for all of our sins. The all-encompassing love and power of His atonement is available to all of us. It can lift your pains, ease your burdens, and change your life IF you let it.

Standing Firm,
Hermana Dearden
