Howdy & Hola from El Paso, Texas! November 12, 2014

Hey y'all!

I'm sorry for going AWOL for a couple weeks but I am here and safe and I am loving it! I can see Juarez, Mexico from my apartment, and EVERYONE here speaks Spanish. Basically, it feels like I'm in Mexico. It's awesome. The people here are so great! Contacting is so fun because even when they aren't interested at all, they are so nice! Also the Jehovah's Witnessed teach a lot of people here too so it's like a little competition haha. There is so much work to be done here. We are very busy. We have 2 investigators on date to be baptized this month and I can't wait.

My companion is Sister Ramirez! Here's some fun facts:\
1- she is Mexican but from Utah (so yes, she's fluent, and that is so wonderful!)
2- she is 22
3- she is really shy with strangers
4- she eats eggs for lunch every single day
5- she plays the ukelele...a lot haha
6- she thinks that I eat grandpa cereal (I'm sorry but extra raisin Raisin Bran will always be my favorite)

Also, I forgot to take a picture but our mission car is....a truck! That's right. When in Texas, I suppose. We had a few unexpected roommates (pic attached) this last week. But don't worry, I can now add "Tarantula Slayer" to my resume.

I have only had 2 Mexican meals so far in my past two weeks in the field! So disappointing. Every keeps feeding us pizza! We have been fed it 6 times in the past week and a half, and yes, I have been counting. It's pretty funny though, every time it happens Sister Ramirez and I just give each other a look.

On Saturday my district did service at a family's house that burnt down to the foundation. It was so sad. There was a bunch of toys all melted together and little baby shoes. It was a great opportunity to serve though and we got a lot of work done sorting metal and trash, tearing down fences, and weeding. Also I saw my first scorpion. Yikes. Not so cool.

There are 2 other sets of missionaries that serve in my same ward (Spanish WARD) so that is a lot of fun. I am such a greenie. Spanish is definitely a process haha. But I know that one day I will be able to look back and see how far I've come!

I just got asked to give a talk at a multi-zone conference we are having in 2 weeks with Elder Corbridge from the Seventy. I thought I was safe from that! Prayers please :)

I am so grateful for this opportunity to be here on the Lord's errand. I feel blessed every day to be a missionary. It is definitely a challenge but I can feel myself growing every day! I have to rely on my Savior every single day and more than ever before, but in return I have recognized more blessings in my life than ever before to. I know that He knows all of our thoughts and feeling all of the time. He is always there and His arms are always open wide to help us and comfort us(3 Nephi 9:14), but its up to us how close of a relationship we have with him. It takes a sacrifice of pride to know Him, but it is oh so worth it. Pray is such an incredible gift that we have-- to be able to talk to the one who created all the heavens and the earth and every living thing--how incredible! We need to make sure we make good use of that gift. I know He hears our prayers, I know He blesses us far more than we even know, and I know that He loves us perfectly.

Love you all! Have a great week!
